About

Capitol StoneDavid Dubov is a second generation photographer and son of artists, brother of artists.

Born in Abilene, Texas in 1961, his early life was spent in San Antonio and finally Austin. His father's photography was always present and Dubov spent hours watching photo shoots and tagging along on shooting trips around Central Texas. His mother's painting impressed the importance of color and line on him, while her devotion to her art kindled a singular dedication to perserverance in acquiring the image.

After the family moved to England in 1975, his first camera was a Russian Lubitel twin lens reflex that his father bought for him on a trip to the Soviet country. Amateur photography followed, with his father's instruction and guidance. The seed of skill was planted and nutured during those years and on many trips around Europe.

A BFA from Bennington College and a stint at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory as the webmaster for the highly successful Mars Pathfinder Project followed, but allowed little time for photography.

Only vacations afforded him the continuing opportunity of honing of his craft, but his eye developed nevertheless - he continually sought difference, perspective and range in the images he took.

Washington, DC is now his home and his passion for photography has only grown over the years there. Involvement with a like-mided group of friends and colleagues from his current "day job" has continued the nurturing of his talent and encouragement his father and mother awoke in him.
